So why haven't we all made the switch?!?
I know it's not because your holding onto your landline and your precious "triple something" package of TV and Internet. Let's face the reality there...landline phones are closing in on the fate of floppy disks. Won’t it be awesome to ditch the telephone poles and wires strung about on every road? The end of cable tv is one step closer to that dream.
Are we are lazy?
Do we just enjoy random mindless programming with no effort?
Are we fighting the same battle as Compact Discs are right now?
I'll admit, actively seeking a show to watch and then to stream to your desired device requires you to make a decision. You have friends over? Now you have decisions to consider. Truth is I don't think most of us like making decisions. It's easier to accept the mindless re-runs we are force fed on the tube.
I created my own channel about a year ago. It changes all the time. Maybe it's raining outside...I'll rock out the nightwear all day and kill an entire season of something like Breaking Bad or Top Gear.
Maybe I have time while getting ready for work...Whats wrong with music in the background while I get ready instead of some boring show or clueless anchor.
Music is a much larger presence in my life since I cut the cord. Music has become my replacement for infomercials late at night and my ambient soundtrack while working on a project instead of the tv tuned to something mindless or random. That being said I warn: There is an abundance of horrible music out there and it's easy to find. Music streaming services are all over the place but finding a consistent source of good tunes can be a challenge and you may find yourself switching around a lot. The good news is you have resources and you can build your own playlist here too. I use an app like Shazam to learn about new music I'm streaming and then starting buying the songs I like from iTunes. Over the past year I've built an awesome "everyday" mix I can put on anytime I need a good tune and because its in iTunes i can have it on all my devices.
Sports. I know there is a huge fear of loosing live sports! For me I only really watch soccer and that means I'm going to a bar that paid for the premium channels or I'm streaming the game online. Usually I end up streaming the game online and then with an adapter to display it on my TV. Sounds like work yes but let's say your more of an american football person. Wouldn't you rather have instant access to 4-5-6 camera angles and your own control of playback, player info on the spot, and continuous action with no reminder of the new deodorant on sale via the never-ending commercials? These things all exist online and yes they cost money but I'm willing to bet you'll feel much better paying money for the things you watch when you want to watch them instead of 900 million channels to roll the dice on. I'll take the option with all the control every time because I don't want to fumble through my cable providers recommended channels. I want to make proactive decisions about what I watch. Don't you?
Oh and Local, Country, World News. Its been online all this time.
Even better...it's the news that matters.
There's no anchor personality trying to win your attention. There's no commercials before the breaking story they announce an hour before showing.
There's just facts for you to decide on.
Im much less stressed from missing the News on cable TV. It could just be me but I've found a lot more positive in the world without my local news channels. They usually pull the negative card to get attention.
